Capacitor Discharge (CD) Stud Welding is an advanced form of semi-automatic arc welding. It is specifically designed for joining small diameter fasteners (1/4″ and smaller) to delicate, thin gauge parent metal.

The CD process harnesses the power of stored energy in a capacitor, which is rapidly released through a specialized weld "timing" tip in the stud welder. This instantaneous discharge allows for the completion of the entire weld cycle within a matter of milliseconds.

CD welding enables the creation of welds on thin sheets without causing significant distortion, burn-through, or discoloration. Additionally, CD welding offers the advantage of being able to join dissimilar metals through stud welding.
